THE ROAD TO MAMABEL’S HOME GARDEN AND ORGANIC HERBS
Recently, the Bislig Chamber of Commerce visited the association of Negros Producers (ANP) in Bacolod City, Philippines. One of the goal of the visit was the exchange of the best business practices of the two groups. During the meeting some members of the ANP gave their personal experiences relative to their business. One of those who shared was Evelyn Bautista, popularly known among her circles as Mamabel.
Here’s the story of Mamabel as she narrated…
A lot of people think that the road to Mamabel’s Home Garden and organic herbs is a bed of roses… They think that I just woke up one day and just reaped the harvest of my plots. Little do they know that this dream has taken a back seat for almost all of my life.
I was a frustrated doctor, having not proceeded to take up medicine after graduating from Medical Technology. More important matters of the heart caused me to take a different turn in the road I am pursuing. Raising a husband and three children took up most of my time, but still, this dream to be able to help people to be well and healthy sits back of my mind.
Years passed and my children, now all grown up and with families of their own. I realized that the dream to become a doctor, maybe too late for me. I have loved plants since before and as a housewife with ample time in my hands, I dabbled into gardening. The realization, then hit me that if I cannot be a doctor, then perhaps I can cause my love for gardening to ease people into a healthier well-being. This was the start of Mamabel’s Organic Herbs.
My husband is a diabetic and I have always been in pursuit of a natural way to help regulate his blood sugar by way of the food he eats. We started planting organic herbs and fruit trees and did a lot of research. I joined garden groups and participated in intellectual exchange. The road is not smooth and I may describe it as bumpy always. Sourcing of materials, financial limitations, unsuccessful trials…these were all part of the journey.
But my dream became a passion, it became my life. So I stood my ground and continued to pursue my happiness. The happiness that comes when people come back to me and tell me that my products has helped the a lot and they continue to buy more… The happiness that comes from my clients telling me that they harvested the first fruits of their bananas or longkong…happiness that comes from people who do not call me Evelyn anymore but Mamabel. All these cannot be equated monetarily.
Herb Dream Pillows by Mambel’s – based on the ancient healing art of aromatherapy. A holistic practice which utilizes the essential oils of herbs. The revitalizing and healing constituents of aromatic plants are absorbed into the blood stream (via the lungs ) by simply inhaling their delightful fragrance. Most essential oils also produce effects far beyond the physical level. The olfactory nerve connects to the memory and emotional center of the brain, the limbic system, thereby creating a direct pathway for the beneficial oils to have an effect. Aromatherapy gently restores and promotes balance between body and mind and is an enjoyable and pleasant experience. Instead of tossing & turning through the night, rest your head upon this blend of relaxing herbs. Reputed to soothe & calm the person.
As I look back, I saw that I shed buckets of tears, and I cannot count how many times I thought of giving up. The support of my family and friends and those who believed in what I do became the wind beneath my wings. I always come out more headstrong than ever. Success is a journey, not a destination.
The journey of Mamabel’s is a huge lesson in life. It may be successful, but there is a good chance that people have helped me along the way. I always make it a point to find creative ways to share the credit and pull people up the ladder of success along with me.
My advice….Remember your roots. Remember where you came from and what you’ve learned along the way. Help others by mentoring them. Most of all treat everyone with dignity and respect, else you may be successful, but that doesn’t make your life better than anyone else.

I was basically waitnng to know if you ever considered switching the design of your site? It is well written; I really like what you have got to state. But maybe you can add a little more in the way of content so people might connect with it better. You have got an awful lot of wording for only having one or two pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
The story of Mamabel was so inspiring, inspite she failed by being a doctor but then she succeed, by helping other people. This story can really enlighten us.

I agree that success is a journey and not a destination. It’s really nice to be connected with our roots.
I love to do the planting of these organic herbs and caring them. Well, this is great home garden that others could follow.
this is really inspiring… like Mamabel’s hubby, I am also a diabetic and like her, I am also eager to find ways to control my blood sugar the natural way through herbal medicine… so far I’m using Guyabano, Mangosteen and Yakon and they are quite effective…those pillows are very interesting.. hopefully she can produce more of it and let them be sold in different malls here in Manila or nearby areas too
The story is very inspiring and it teaches us how a dream can come true if your heart if really into it. She is also very humble and I appreciate the advice she gave.
