GLOBE LTE-ADVANCE 4-COMPONENT CARRIER TECHNOLOGY | FIRST IN THE PHILIPPINES

Globe Telecom is the first Philippines TelCo to deploy commercially the  LTE-Advanced 4 Component Carrier (4CC) spectrum aggregation by using the 2600MHz band. The LTE-Advanced technology effectively doubles LTE capacity in all areas covered by the deployment, creating faster internet experience to the users.

Globe Senior Vice President for Program Governance, Network Technical Group, Joel Agustin said: “The availability of new spectrum allocation in the 2600 MHz happened after   Globe’s partial buying of San Miguel’s telecommunication assets last year increases the Globe’s capability in further improving mobile internet browsing experience for the users. Particularly, Globe is using the 4-Component Carrier (4CC) spectrum aggregation in increasing and enhancing its LTE coverage.

The 4- Component Carrier (4CC) technology utilizes 4 distinctly separate blocks of the 2600 MHz spectrum that are aggregated by LTE-Advanced eNode B equipment to supply faster internet speeds. The 4-Component Carrier Technology is comparable to intensifying the number of lanes in a highway from 2 lanes (in the case of 2CC) to 4 lanes, resulting in faster internet services.

Joel Agustin also mentioned: “This is the first time that a Philippine telecommunications company is making use of this 4-component carrier (4CC) spectrum LTE-Advanced technology and we are boosting the potential of the new spectrum assigned to us benefiting our valued customers with a better internet service. Agustin added:  “This technology milestone dramatically enhances the customer experience as smartphone penetration continues to increase in the country”.

As of this writing, Globe has already put up the technology in 110 sites majority in Metro Manila. Agustin said” The initial deployment caters many areas in Makati and certain areas in Quezon City, Antipolo, Marikina, and San Mateo.

Agustin stressed that while most commercially available devices are compatible with 2-layer carrier aggregation technology, customers on the mentioned areas will surely benefit from the deployment of the LTE-Advanced Technology on account of increased data capacity delivered by sites deployed with 4-layer spectrum, which delivers  the speed of up to 400 Mbps.

This 2017, Globe plans to roll out the technology in more than 500 sites, Agustin said. Apart from Metro Manila, the company is planning to install the 4-Component Carrier (4CC) LTE-Advanced technology using 2600 MHz in key areas in South Luzon and North Luzon to increase data and in preparation for the availability of 4-Component Carrier (4CC)  compatible devices.

Last  June 2016, Globe began utilizing its additional allocation in the 2600 MHz as the company increases its effort to deliver enhanced mobile internet experience for its users. To date, Globe has installed around 2600 LTE sites in about 1,200 areas in the Visayas and Mindanao Region. This initiative will provide additional capacity and enhance internet experience of its valued customers.
